The Power Couple Behind Being Mary Jane

I'm sure by now you have seen or at least heard about the hit TV show Being Mary Jane. In a nutshell, the show is about a successful single black female supporting three generations of her dysfunctional family. Family isn't her only problem though. Her biological clock is ticking and she is hopelessly in love with a married man whose wife knows about them.

Fans were waiting since the ninety minute pilot episode aired back in July of 2013 for the season to begin. The show starring Gabrielle Union finally premiered January 7th on BET. Union starred in many blockbuster movies such as Think Like a Man, Bad Boys II, Bring It On, Good Deeds, Deliver Us From Eva, Daddy's Little Girls, and The Brothers. And that is only a portion of her movie and TV credits.

Although I love the acting in the show, what really fascinates me is the writing. I love good writing. Whether it's in a book, TV show, or movie, if the writing is good it won't take long before I'm hooked. I enjoy saying, "Wow. I didn't see that coming." The powerhouse creative team behind Being Mary Jane, who also happen to be husband and wife, are Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. The couple wears many hats on their projects. They tackle everything from writing, executive producing to directing. Their credits also include TV shows such as Girlfriend, The Game, and  the movie Sparkle.

The show has a great cast including Omar Hardwick, Margaret Avery, Richard Roundtree, Richard Brooks, Raven Goodwin, Kara Lynch, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, and Stephen Bishop. All new episodes air Tuesday nights at 10:00 PM. Make sure you tune in.
