I know that everyone may not like going to crowded restaurants to celebrate Valentine’s Day. If you prefer to stay in the comfort of your own home, here are a few movies that would be great to watch. First up, we have the hilarious romantic comedy Think Like a Man. I I know that everyone won’t agree but I love movies based on books. Steve Harvey’s penned Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man which the movie is based on. Funny man Kevin Hart stars in and narrates the movie. It also stars “the dreamer” Michael Ealy and “the woman who is her own man” Taraji P. Henson. Jerry Ferrara plays “the non-committer” who lives with Gabrielle Union “the girl who wants the ring”. Meagan Good stars as “the 90 day rule girl” coupled up with Romany Malco “the player”. Lastly, there is “the single mom” Regina Hall and “the mama’s boy” Terrence J. Not only is the cast great, but the soundtrack is too. It has original hits like Tonight song by John Legend and Think Like a Man by Jennifer Hudson.
The Notebook is another romantic movie based on a book by Nicholas Sparks. It is narrated by James Garner who plays an elderly man in a nursing home. The story switches back and forth from the present day to when the couple met in the 1940's. It stars Rachel McAdams who play Allie, a rich girl and Ryan Gosling plays Noah, a poor boy who she falls in love with. Her parents don't want their daughter to be with trash like him. She moves on getting engaged to someone her family approves of and Noah goes off to war. When he returns, he begins renovating a dream house for them to live in. Allie comes back and breaks it off with her fiance to return to Noah. The audience figures out that the elderly man telling the story is Noah explaining to his wife, who suffers from dementia how they met.
Love & Basketball is the story of the girl and boy next door creatively depicted in four quarters of their lives. Monica and Quincy grow up as neighbors who share a strong love for basketball and eventually each other. They let the stress of family disappointments and making time for each other tear them apart. But Monica, played by Sanaa Lathan never stops loving Quincy played by Omar Epps. Love & Basketball was written by Gina Prince-Bythwood and produced by Spike Lee. Sanaa won a BET Award and an NAACP Image Award for her role back in 2001.
The last movie on the list is 50 First Dates starring funny man Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Sandler plays a player afraid of commitment. Her falls in love with Barrymore who suffers from a condition of amnesia with short term memory loss. Filmed in romantic Hawaii, everyday Sandler sets out to entertain and woo Barrymore because she doesn't remember who he is. The next day she starts out with a blank state and he begins the process again. 50 First Dates is a Happy Madison Production.
