Brotherly Love & Blackbird Movie Release Weekend

I am very excited about this weekend. Two wonderful coming of age movies will be released Friday April 24th. First up is Brotherly Love. It is the story of two siblings growing up in the rough neighborhood of west Philadelphia. One is a high school basketball superstar and his sister is an aspiring singer.

Brotherly Love stars KeKe Palmer who also sings on the soundtrack. The cast includes Eric D. Hill Jr., Romeo Miller, Malik Yoba, and Macy Gray. Sean P. Diddy Combs' son Quincy Brown makes his film debut in this movie.

Cory Hardrict plays the protective older brother of the two siblings. Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit produced the movie which was written and directed by Jamal Hill.

The movie Blackbird is based on the novel Blackbird by Larry Duplechan. It also opens this weekend, but by limited release. If you live in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., New York or San Francisco, you are among the lucky one to get to see the movie now.

It's the story of Randy who is a seventeen year old dealing with the issues in his life while living in a small town in Mississippi. His father has left, so he has to take care of his emotionally challenged mother. On top of that, he is a devout Christian who is confused about his sexuality.

Blackbird is the lead actor Julian Walker's movie debut. It also stars Mo'nique and Isaiah Washington as his parents. Mo'nique and her husband Sidney Hicks executive produced the film while Isaiah served as one of the producers. D. Woods acts as well as sings on the soundtrack. The script was written by Rikki Beadle Blair and Patrik-Ian Polk. Polk also directed the film.

I can't wait to get to see both films!
